Mingyong Glacier

Mingyong Glacier is one most elegant glacier under the Meli Snow mountain, which comes from the name of one village in the dry and hot valley under it. “MingYong” means the village of fire pan. It also has another meaning of “bright mirror”. According to the legend, it is the heart protection mirror of the War God Kawa Gebo. The glacier is extended from the summit of Kawa Gebo into the forest with an altitude of 2660m, extended for 12km. With average width of 500m, total area of about 6km, and annual water melting amount of 230 million cubic meters. In winter and summer, it has large extension amplitude and fast changing speed, being the world rare low-latitude glacier. There is peculiar scenery on the glacier, from which the icefall and ice storm can be seen.
