Jiantang Town in Shangri-la


Jiantang Town belongs to Shangri-la country, with a elevation of 3300m above the sea level,surrounded by the mountains, with a flat terrain in the middle,being an important town that the acient tea and horse road and current Yunnan-Tibet Highway will pass through, divided into two parts: ancient central town and new town. 
The ancient central town is on the Mountain Dagui,being the best ancient town kept in the Tibetan area. It is the castle built by Tubo during the region of Yufeng and Tiaolu in Tang dynasty.

The street in the city is built around the mountain, the building is one of the unique soil wall and wooden board type of Diqing Tibetan place, the road is paved with rough and durable state, and the city is divided into three streets: Jinlong, Cangfang and Beimen,total 33 lanes. There is square street in the center of the market transation, with 23 minority nationalities living together hamoniously.

Starting from 1950s,the new city was built between the foot of Mountain Jia on north and the ancient city, along the both sides of Xiangde Highway, making the urban area move northward. By 1990s, the country has reached the certain scale. Now when you enter Shangri-la Country, what you see is a plateau new city full of Tibetan culture features.
