Dayu Haiyan Village- the last surviving ancient fishing village in Dianchi Lake


Haiyan Village is located in the eastern coast of Dianchi Lake of Kunming. It is a beautiful fishing village with good location to enjoy beautiful scenery of Dianchi Lake. Moreover it is rich in produce the fish and duck. As early as about 400 years ago, this village was famous for its “ Haiyan” which means sea food banquet in Chinese. At at time, the local govern officials always liked to visit Dianch Lake and hold the sea food banquet in here, thus the village got the name “ Haiyan”.

 

The layout of the whole village looked like a fish bone which runs through by a 2-kilometer stone road. The “ fish head” is the ancient pier in the eastern coast of Dianchi Lake, the “ fish tail “ stretched to the current lakeside road.

Even passed on hundreds years, there are many old buildings with gray tiles and yellow walls still in the both sides of the stone road. Most of them kept well in the traditional Yunnan style--“ One Seal ” building. This refers the courtyard composed by the principal rooms, side rooms, reversely-set rooms with appearance of a square just like a seal. The beam and doors are usually carved by the traditional Chinese patterns such as bat, lucky cloud, the“ Four Treasures of Study “ and so on to show good wishes.

Shilong Temple is the village temple of Haiyan where the villagers to worship their ancestors. It is closed to the old pier. It was first built in Ming Dynasty, and enlarged, rebuilt to a Buddhist architecture of 4200 square meters today.

 

There is a pavilion named Wanghaiting (watching the sea ) in the southwest corner of the temple. As it is located in the highest rock, standing in the pavilion, visitors can see the entire Dianchi and the Western Hills on the opposite.

The most attractive palace of the village is the ancient pier. This long road of the pier extend into Dianch Lake, that is the best palace to enjoy the beautiful view of Dianch Lake. Watching the sunset, the endless changes of the clouds, listen to the wave of lakes to lashing the shore.
